Truth is an interesting concept. Not only has the truth of any given fact or concept probably been argued at great length, the nature of truth itself is the matter of great, and sustained, debate. There seems to be no single definition of truth to which even half of professional philosophers and scholars can agree. Truth is both elusive and enticing, passing and enduring. It enthralls us and eludes us. Some ignore the truth. Others abuse it. A few seek it, are prepared to embrace it, whatever it may bring.
In a long article dealing with the concept of truth Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, says: “Truth can have a variety of meanings, from the state of being the case, being in accord with a particular fact or reality, being in accord with the body of real things, events, actuality, or fidelity to an original or to a standard. In archaic usage it could be fidelity, constancy or sincerity in action, character, and utterance.”
The multitude of theories and views about truth continue to be debated without end. There are differing claims and understandings on such questions as what constitutes truth; the differences between that which is true or false; how to define and identify truth; the roles that revealed and acquired knowledge play in determining truth; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute.
With that in mind we begin our journey.
If you are already firm in your own understanding, secure in your own faith, strong in the belief that you already know what is true and what is not, then you probably don’t need to bother with this site. You probably won’t want to!
If you are a religious or political fanatic bent on delivering your branded doctrine to anyone and everyone, regardless of others’ positions or beliefs, there is no grist for your mill to be found here. You are as free as anyone to espouse your own opinions but, most probably, your time is better spent elsewhere.
But if, like me, you feel restless, unfulfilled, seeking answers to the many questions that rise up in your every-day life, and beyond, if you feel there is more than what you have been told to believe, if you have doubts or questions about many things, then you may find this site worth the time it takes to look around. Be careful though. You may also find yourself coming back again to dip into the well, to seek out more answers, to explore other ideas, to study a different perspective, and to share your own thoughts as well.
Are the many religions of the world simply myths that have grown up within themselves or, far worse, are they deep rooted frauds perpetrated on unsuspecting peoples in need of something to believe? Are religions simply for the basest purpose of leveraging control and power in the hands of religious leaders?
This is not a religious site though, in part, it is about, and will explore, religion. Nor is it about debunking religion, though to many believers, especially those who are less than fully secure in their own faith, that may well seem to be the case. But, rather, this site is about exploring the many questions that rise up in our life, our religion, our interaction with the universe, and what constitutes truth. And, somewhere within all this, perhaps it is also about finding God, whatever he may be to you.
Some ask what is the purpose of life? Are we really the highest form, some might say the only form, of intelligent life in the Universe? Are we really God’s chosen? Is there a God? Or are we alone in this vast expanse of space? What about prophecy? Will 2012 really be the end of the world?
If you are curious, unsure, or just not satisfied with the mainstream teachings you’ve been fed, if you are looking for a different truth, perhaps the real truth, then be warned. If you do enter this site you may not like what you find. Or worse yet, you may!
